Ahangama was once an important trading post for spices and tea.
The Villa Ridee Kanda was built by a tea and spice trader as one of the first buildings in the vicinity of the monastery Pirivena in the early 20th century. The locals refer to Villa Ridee Kanda as “The Bungalow”.
The village Ahangama is on the southern coast of Sri Lanka (South Western Province), and directly on the Colombo – Galle – Matara railway line.
Among tourists the area of Ahangama is well known for its one-off stilt fishermen.
